“I had already been in rehearsal for about three weeks preparing for the video when Cardi heard the record for the first time,” Normani recalled in a press release. “She really showed up for me and brought this record to life by simply doing what Cardi does best. I love that woman down and I’m forever grateful.”
Normani, Starrah, Dave Cappa, Tyler Rohn, Jonah Christian, Taylor Ross, and June Nawakii are credited as producers of “Wild Side.” Starrah also contributed vocals to the single, according to Tidal.
Last year, Normani teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion for their song “Diamonds,” which appeared on the Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) soundtrack. She released her debut single “Motivation” in the summer of 2019, and 21 Savage delivered a remix a few weeks later. Normani has hinted at new material more than once since then, but hasn’t yet announced details about when her debut album will arrive. Last summer, Normani joined Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B as a guest in the video for “WAP.”
Cardi B, who recently revealed that she’s pregnant with her second child, began 2021 with the single “Up.” (Tanu Maino also directed Cardi’s “Up” video.) She performed the song, as well as “WAP,” at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Since then, Cardi has featured on DJ Khaled’s “Big Paper” and Migos’ “Type Shit.” After leading the video series Cardi Tries ____ for Facebook and Instagram last year, she’s set to star in a forthcoming comedy film titled Assisted Living.
